The Googong Hotel set to raise the bar

Googong's newest addition to become a destination for the region

The township of Googong is set to become home to the new Googong Hotel, a dramatic architecturally-designed pub, function and entertainment facility, which is anticipated to become a focal point of the upcoming Googong Town Centre.

A Development Application will soon be lodged for the $25 million dollar hotel that will seat over 700 throughout the entire venue, including over 400 through the Ground Level dining areas, and will also act as a family friendly venue, featuring a kid’s play area.

Designed to respond to its surroundings, the Googong Hotel sits on the Googong Town Centre’s “Main Street” Glenrock Drive and will overlook Bunyip Park and lake, with the exterior landscape trickling through to the interior of the hotel including significant greenery, generous volumes of light and raking timber ceilings inside the venue.

Googong property developers Peet and Mirvac, have partnered with local publicans, Anthony and Sandy McDonald, owners of the Royal Hotel in Queanbeyan, who will bring the multi-million-dollar development to fruition.

Malcolm Leslie, Googong Project Director said the new hotel is set to become a destination pub which will offer a diverse range of experiences for everyone to enjoy.

“The Googong Hotel will be a significant facility for the town and a major draw-card for the region. The new hotel will bring a community feel, by becoming a go-to local eatery, as well as a live music venue which reflects the events culture of Googong.”

“We are proud to have partnered with the owners of the Royal Hotel who have extensive expertise in creating exceptional venues that bring people together. The Googong Hotel is a prime example of this and will be an unmissable addition to the area.”

May + Russell Architects have carefully designed the Googong Hotel to include indoor and outdoor areas, which spill out to the street. The two level venue will also include function room capability for up to 260 people overlooking Bunyip Park and lake, which can also operate an entertainment venue for up to 400.

Publicans Anthony and Sandy McDonald recognised the instrumental role community plays within the township of Googong and have designed the hotel to reflect its importance.

“Our vision for the Googong Hotel is for it to become an integral part of the region, where patrons can come and enjoy the delicious food, drinks and entertainment, but also become a part of the social fabric of Googong,” said Anthony McDonald.

“We envision the new hotel will serve as an anchor for the Googong Town Centre, attracting visitors from the surrounding areas, who will all enjoy a vibrant experience when they visit the new hotel.”

The Googong Hotel sits as part of the Googong Town Centre which has been carefully designed to become a one-stop destination for residents and visitors. The centre is planned to include two major supermarkets, a range of retail, restaurant and entertainment options in addition to the Googong Hotel, a community centre, library, medical centre, petrol station, and fire station.

Subject to approvals, the Googong Hotel is expected to be open to the public in 2025, creating approximately 55 local jobs over the course of the build and a further 40 when operational. Currently home to around 7,000 people, Googong is on track to grow to a population of over 18,000 people at completion.
