Googong’s annual Rural Fire Service 2026
The fire trucks are rolling back into Googong, and everyone’s invited. Our local volunteers keep us safe all year round, and once a year they open their doors and welcome the community to see the trucks and hear about what they do.
The brigade is bringing all four of its fire trucks, so there’s plenty of hands-on fun for the young and the young-at-heart. Kids can climb aboard the trucks, play with the fire hoses and make new friends at the petting zoo. There’ll also be live music, dance performances, face painting and food stalls.
A day for everyone
We want every member of our community to enjoy the fire truck experience. A quiet, sensory-friendly space will be set up away from the main activities, giving neurodivergent and disabled community members a more comfortable environment to explore the trucks.
The brigade has also recently introduced Sensory Kits across its fire trucks. They include calming toys, fidgets, visual communication cards and writing aids, and they’re designed to better support neurodivergent, disabled and non-English speaking residents during emergency responses. The open day is a good opportunity to see the kits up close and chat with the crew about them.
