GOOGONG HOTEL SET TO OPEN LATE 2026
Friday, 28 June, 2025

Googong’s social scene is about to get a major upgrade as construction begins on the Googong Hotel, a bold new pub, function, and entertainment space in the heart of the township.
The Googong Hotel will include a bistro, additional restaurant, lounge, bar, beer garden, function rooms, sports bar, gaming room, and a dedicated kid’s play area. The venue will accommodate more than 700 patrons, with a flexible function space designed to host up to 400 guests.
“The first shovel in the ground for the Googong Hotel marks a major milestone for Googong as a township. The Hotel is a key part of the Town Centre’s original masterplan which we developed to provide a mix of convenience, employment and community connectivity for residents and visitors alike,” said Glen Frew, Googong Executive.
“The expansive two-storey building will offer Googonians a central meeting place, go-to local eatery and a dynamic live music venue all under one roof. Under the highly capable management of Anthony and Sandy McDonald, we are excited to see it undoubtedly become a significant draw card, attracting even more visitors to the region.”
Googong’s developers Peet and Mirvac have partnered with Queanbeyan Royal Hotel publicans Anthony and Sandy McDonald to bring the $25 million Googong Hotel to life ahead of a late 2026 opening.
“We’re excited to reach the next stage in the journey for the Googong Hotel, with construction now underway. Our goal for the venue is to create a welcoming space where locals can come together to eat, connect, and celebrate. Whether it’s a family meal, a live gig, or a community event, we want the hotel to become a vibrant hub at the heart of the town centre,” said Googong Hotel Publican Anthony McDonald.
“The hotel’s culinary vision is already taking shape. Our chefs are currently in China on a study tour, immersing themselves in authentic Chinese cuisine, while the bistro will offer classic dishes including locally sourced, award-winning steaks,” added McDonald.
The Googong Hotel has been thoughtfully designed by May + Russell Architects to complement its natural surroundings, featuring spacious indoor and outdoor areas that open out to the street and adjacent Bunyip Park. Street approvals also allow for up to ten road closures a year enabling the hotel to connect directly with the park for community events and enhancing the indoor–outdoor experience.
In addition to the hotel milestone, a site has now been settled for the Town Centre’s main retail centre with Coles Group Property Developments. The retail centre will feature a Coles supermarket and more than 20 specialty stores. Once complete, the Town Centre will also include a medical centre, gym, library, community centre, petrol station, childcare, and more, creating a one stop destination for both residents and visitors. These significant advancements come as Googong, which celebrated its 10th anniversary over the last year, continues to expand. The township is now home to over 8,000 people with over 18,000 at expected at completion.
