What’s open now and what’s coming soon
The Googong Town Centre is already buzzing with activity. The Stevens Group retail precinct has welcomed a number of new businesses, giving local residents greater convenience and more reasons to stay close to home. Here’s a rundown of what’s open now and what’s on the horizon.
About Googong Central:
Complementing the local shops already active in Googong’s neighbourhoods, Googong Central will be a genuine town heart. A hotspot for fun, relaxation and everyday life, serving both Googonians and the wider region. The $82 million precinct brings together the Town Centre site, the southern Stevens Group site and the Googong Hotel into a single, connected destination.
It is expected to create around 345 construction jobs, and once complete 640 permanent jobs, making it a significant economic asset for the whole community. The full vision for Googong Central includes two major supermarkets, cafés, bars, restaurants, a pharmacy, newsagency, gym and medical centre, alongside a wide range of shops and professional services.
A multipurpose community centre, including a public library, will be built for Googongians and managed by Queanbeyan-Palerang Regional Council, located next to the Coles site adjoining Bunyip Park. Alongside this, a fire station, community garden, petrol station and inner-living townhouses and apartments are all part of the plan, ensuring Googong Central is as much about people as it is about place.
“The Googong Town Centre has been carefully planned to give residents everything they need close to home. The new eateries are already creating local jobs in the area and giving families greater convenience and choices, with childcare facilities to open soon.” Glen Frew, Development Director, Googong

What’s already open?
Googong residents can now fill up without leaving the township, with a 7-Eleven service station and convenience store now serving the community. McDonalds and KFC have both opened their doors, meaning there’s no shortage of quick, easy meals right on your doorstep. And with an early education centre set to open shortly, Googong Central is already shaping up as a daily destination.
What’s opening soon?
Construction is well underway on the Googong Hotel, a two-storey venue on Glenrock Drive that will overlook Bunyip Park and the lake. Set to open in late 2026, it will accommodate around 700 patrons and feature a bistro, restaurant, bar, beer garden, sports bar, gaming room, function spaces, the kind of local that works just as well for a Tuesday dinner as it does for a grand final or a weekend wedding. Just around the corner, The Reject Shop is also set to open, providing everyday essentials right on your doorstep
Looking further ahead, a full-service Coles supermarket and more than 20 specialty stores are planned for the main retail centre. The site has now been formally settled with Coles Group Property Developments, with the centre scheduled to open in 2028.
Bunyip Park
You can’t miss Bunyip Park when you enter Googong, following the entrance to the town centre on Wellsvale Drive sits Bunyip Park, the beating heart of Googong’s public life. This beautiful lakeside park is a natural gathering place, a backdrop for community events, and everyday moments of connection.
The park’s centrepiece is a stage built out over the water, designed to host live music and entertainment through the warmer months. Whether you’re popping down for a morning walk, attending one of our famous local events, or just letting the kids loose on a Saturday afternoon, Bunyip Park is the kind of place that makes Googong feel like home. In the future, the Town Centre and Bunyip Park will seamlessly interface, creating a mixed-use precinct as the central hub of life at Googong.

There’s so much more to come
We love being a self-contained township. Our local facilities and services are built for us, and as Googong grows, so does the vision for what’s possible. Some of the great things still to look forward to include more places to play, including a new adventure playground; additional sports fields, a tennis centre and pick-ball courts, indoor pool and sports centre, and a regional athletics track; a further community garden for green thumbs of all ages; and a kinder to Year 12 public high school that will serve families right across the community.
