$143 MILLION TOWN CENTRE UNVEILED

We have unveiled plans for our biggest expansion at Googong yet – a $143 million town centre that will bring 1800 new dwellings, 4500 residents and hundreds of jobs to the ACT region.

Googong Central is the town’s second neighbourhood and includes its main town centre. Fully developed, the precinct is expected to contribute $185 million per annum to the retail industry, generating hundreds of local jobs, over 600 flow-on jobs in nearby Queanbeyan, and more than 500 fulltime construction positions each year.

The ambitious project is another notch on the belt for Googong project partners Peet Limited and Mirvac. Googong Project Director Malcolm Leslie said civil works for the site would start in May 2018. Major supermarkets and the retail precinct are expected to open around 2024-25.

“This is the biggest development application since the 800-hectare Googong site was first approved in 2011 and it’s an important milestone for the community,” he said.

“Googong Central will bring new facilities and services to town so residents don’t have to leave to access good shopping, great schools, and choices in healthcare and recreation.

“Employment is an important part of that. The town centre will create more opportunities for people to work close to home, particularly young people and working parents.

“The choice in housing will be bigger too, to meet growing demand in the wider Canberra market. The town centre will cater for different lifestyles, with apartments,compact lots and terraces, as well as traditional lots for families who want space and a big backy
