Draft Development Control Plan on exhibition (July 2010)

CIC Australia has been working closely with Queanbeyan City Council in preparation of the draft Development Control Plan (DCP) for the new town of Googong. Queanbeyan City Council unveiled the draft DCP yesterday, which is on public exhibition at the Queanbeyan Library to 20 August 2010. The draft DCP is a comprehensive set of guidelines for the development of the town over the next 20 to 25 years. Its release represents a critical milestone in the town's development, and we are delighted that this is now on exhibition.

Googong community clubhouse designer announced (May 2010)

The winner of a national design competition to produce the new Googong township’s first community clubhouse has been announced.

Renown Sydney architects Allen Jack+Cottier beat a number of prominent architectural firms to win the project. The competition concept design is based on the unique landscape of the Googong region with its soft, flowing undulations. It is also intended to reflect the township’s proposed built landscape which will be characterised by a network of intersecting boulevards and open spaces.

The new township of Googong — a $1.6 billion CIC Australia development — will be located on a 780-hectare site just 16 kilometres south-east of Parliament House. The new, largely self-contained township will be developed by CIC Australia over the next 25 years and is set to establish the benchmark for urban development and community creation.

Googong Project Director Mark Attiwill says the Googong community will be made up of about 16,000 residents living across five connected neighbourhoods with a variety of housing styles, parklands and community facilities.

"The community clubhouse is the first of these community facilities to be designed and will be the first to be built. Therefore we are very excited to be commencing the design process for what will become a landmark building in the first neighbourhood of the township.”

AJ+C's concept design features a simple, predominantly horizontal roofline and a floor plan which takes advantage of the site’s panoramic views. In keeping with CIC Australia's sustainability principles, the clubhouse will incorporate sound passive solar design principles as well as water saving technology. The clubhouse will contain an indoor pool, gym and café.

"It's a very contemporary and modern design, but it fits beautifully within the Googong landscape,” says Mark Attiwill.

Now that the winning architects have been chosen, Mr Attiwill says the concept design will be refined to take it from concept to completion. "There is still a lot of work to be done to ensure the building's technical aspects are fully scoped, specified and refined,” he says.
